Joanne Weiner, the Executive Director and Founder of Private Tutoring Services, began Private Tutoring Services in 1989 with the vision that education can work for all students and educators. She has been working in South Florida, as well as in Europe, Latin America and throughout the United States supplying creative solutions for academic, language and cultural instruction for all levels and ages.
Academic Director, Palm Beach International Academy
Sergio obtained his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the Universidad de Santo Tomas in Bogota, Colombia. With 16 years of teaching experience, he was rewarded the 2012 Hispanic Heritage Month Excellence in Education Award. Sergio holds certifications in TEFL and ESOL (K-12). Over the years, he has also taught Spanish, World History and Math. Sergio believes that any educational endeavor should be permeated by Lao Tzu’s three treasured: simplicity, patience and compassion.
Academic Director, Royal Palm Academy
Elana graduated from The University of Arizona with a B.A. in Elementary Education. Prior to her move, she received her teaching certifications in the state of Arizona. Since joining PTS, she has tutored students from all levels of abilities and learning styles. She has been an Academic Director of Private Tutoring Services since 2012. Elana assists, manages, and oversees the academic progress and success of our full-time and content students at Royal Palm Academy. In her free time, Elana enjoys practicing Bikram Yoga, exercising, traveling, and spending quality time with family and friends. Elana is a certified childrens' yoga instructor as well.
Jason is a graduate of Harvard University, where he received a B.A. magna cum laude in Social Studies with a minor in Spanish Language. He also holds an M.F.A. in Nonfiction Writing from the University of Arizona, where he taught English and Creative Writing before moving to Florida in 2005. Since that time, Jason has independently completed the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's introductory calculus and physics sequences as part of ongoing professional development.
Since 2002, Jason has tutored students around the country in subjects spanning the full range of academic disciplines. Jason is a member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling, and has been Academic Director of Private Tutoring Services since 2009. He lives in West Palm Beach with his wife Mary and daughter Sienna.

Maggie holds an M.A. in Sociology from The George Washington University, where she also completed her undergraduate degree. During her time as a graduate student at George Washington, Maggie tutored undergraduate students in Sociology and Writing in the Disciplines. She also served as an exam and essay grader for the Sociology department. In addition, she has provided academic support for children of all ages in a variety of subjects, though her areas of expertise are English, Social Sciences, and Writing Skills. Before moving to Wellington, Maggie worked in college admissions at Mount Ida College in Massachusetts. Maggie is also an equestrian and has been competing on the hunter/jumper show circuit for 22 years. She understands the challenges students face when learning to balance their commitments and believes in the Private Tutoring Services mission to optimize productivity by individualizing programs to accommodate each student's learning style. Maggie is currently working on earning a Certificate in College Counseling.
Sara graduated with her B.S. in English, specializing in pre-med studies and secondary education, and a chemistry minor from Liberty University. A recent transplant to South Florida, she has lived many places on the East Coast. She has been teaching students of various ages, from preschool kids through adults, for over 15 years. Her favorite thing is helping a student “get it”—and she loves to make learning fun. In her spare time, she loves to sing and write; her writings have been published and performed in various venues.

Since 2004, Fran has taught all levels of mathematics, sciences, and humanities, from middle school to advanced placement. In 2012 he earned his Ph.D. in Semiotics at Florida Atlantic University, in conjunction with Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Fran was also named a finalist for the National Society of Arts and Letters Career Award in Literature. He holds a B.S. in Neuroscience/Chemistry and a B.A. in British Literature/Theology from the University of Miami. He earned dual master's degrees in Psychology and English Literature & Languages from Florida Atlantic University. An avid musician, Fran enjoys writing, traveling, and medieval re-enactment. Last but not least, in 2013 Fran qualified to be a contestant on Jeopardy! Scheduling of his national television debut is still to be announced.
Born and educated in Peru, Sylvia has a Master’s degree in Social Communication Sciences. She was a Professor of Communications at the University of Lima for ten years before moving to the United States in 2004. Silvia is the author of Lenguaje Empresarial and Relaciones Publicas, and describes teaching as the “greatest passion” in her life. She began teaching Social Communications in 1996 while working on her graduate degree and soon expanded the subjects she taught to include the Sciences, Anthropology, and Sociology before moving onto Linguistics, English Grammar, Marketing, Spanish and English as a second language.
Jasmine Atwell is a recent graduate of Northwestern University, where she earned a B.A. in Sociology and Legal Studies. She has a proved background in writing, having consulted on college and graduate school admission statements for over a year and completed a senior thesis on the intersection of artistic expression, socioeconomic realities, and legal consciousness in March 2013. Jasmine collaborates with students on English/Language Arts, Social Studies (American Government, History, Sociology, and Philosophy), SAT strategies, and college admissions counseling. To energize and personalize the learning process, Jasmine is a strong proponent of infusing tutoring sessions with improvisational activities, logic games, and musical accompaniment (where appropriate).

Molly Aubry is a professional artist and designer who has traveled, lived, and exhibited in the United States, Europe, and Central America. She has a B.F.A. from the University of Florida, where she studied art, design, art history, and creative writing. She has worked as a designer at several agencies, as an English tutor in Barcelona, and as a sales consultant at Baker Sponder Gallery. She now focuses on her art, her design business, and tutoring Art, Creative Writing, Language Arts, and Spanish at PTS.
Karin has had a successful 36 year career teaching middle and high school language arts students in central Ohio. She has also taught research writing at The Ohio State University for the past ten years and served the Ohio Department of Education as a literacy consultant and coach. Individualized creative methods of working toward goals are important to her.
Karin received a BS Edu from The Ohio State University, a MS Edu from the College of Mt. St. Joseph, and has completed numerous classes from Ashland University, Walsh University, and St Andrew's College. She is also an accomplished horse show mom!
Christine graduated Magna Cum Laude from State University of New York at Geneseo. She later attended the William E.Simon Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Rochester and graduated within the top of her class with concentrations in Finance and Corporate Accounting. Upon completion of her M.B.A., Christine had over a decade long successful Wall Street career and obtained the Chartered Financial Analyst designation as well as her Six Sigma Green Belt Certification. Throughout college and beyond, she has tutored peers and students of various ages in many subjects, including mathematical and business-related disciplines and has reached a turning point in her career whereby she wanted to "utilize her strong skill set and experiences in a more rewarding environment.” As a means to that end, she has committed to focus her time on helping students achieve their academic and personal goals in an environment that fosters a love of learning.

Lois graduated with honors and a Danforth Fellowship from the University of Buffalo. She received her Bachelor of Arts in English and Philosophy. She also attained a Masters degree in Philosophy from the University of Miami. She has taught English, philosophy, and SAT prep in numerous High Schools.

Donna received her B.A. and certifications in English, French and Social Studies from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She completed her graduate studies at Bridgewater State University. Donna has over 30 years of experience teaching and supervising at Whitman-Hanson Regional School District in MA. She was also on the Advisory Committee for establishing and implementing the state mandated Writing Assessment Program.
Gidget graduated with honors from Franklin Pierce College, in New Hampshire, with a B.A. in Environmental Science and a concentration in Aquatic Biology. Her studies and career found her living and teaching marine science, navigation and oceanography aboard traditional sailing ships from the coast of Maine down to the warm waters of South Florida. In the Palm Beach County School District, she spent 10 years teaching, writing curriculum, developing a Maritime Charter High School and serving as its first principal. She enjoys sharing her knowledge with students of all ages. She has managed small businesses in various service industries alongside her career in education. Gidget holds a 100 Ton USCG Captain’s License and is a SCUBA Open Water Diver. She is happily married and loves to travel, sail, cook, and enjoy time outside.
Debbie received a B.A. in Finance and an M.B.A. at Florida Atlantic University. After running a campaign for quality early childhood education she realized she was drawn to direct instruction and began teaching. She spent eleven years in the private sector, teaching elementary and middle school. In 2010 she began tutoring students and has helped many children bring up grades, work with their own learning styles, and enjoy education.

Claudia graduated High School in her native Germany and moved to Florida in 1999. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education from Florida Atlantic University. Claudia is certified to teach high school math and is endorsed for gifted education. She presently teaches 3rd grade gifted at H.L. Johnson Elementary in Royal Palm Beach. Claudia loves teaching and has been nominated for the prestigious Dwyer Award of Excellence in Education by her peers. In her free time, she enjoys reading, traveling, and running.
Rachel received her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where she graduated with University Honors. The changes occurring in education interested her and after a few years in the New York City fashion industry she left New York to earn her M.Ed. at Nova Southeastern University with the goal of working at a cutting edge academic institution. Rachel is certified to teach math for grades 5-9 and 6-12. She is an avid skier and loves to bike and play tennis.

Bob joined Private Tutoring Services in January 2013 but has been a tutor in Palm Beach County since 2001. He is an expert tutor of the ACT and SAT and has been responsible for training test prep tutors for other organizations. He also tutors math at all levels and is AP certified through AP Calculus BC. His experience tutoring math includes seven years as a math specialist at a Kumon Learning Center, where he worked with students of all ages and abilities. In addition, Bob also has AP certifications in chemistry and physics.

A native New Yorker, Jeanne relocated to South Florida with her family and has been with PTS since 1999. In New York, she worked on the editorial staff at Simon and Schuster and in institutional sales and trading at Morgan Stanley. After receiving her degree in secondary education from the University of Maryland, Jeanne taught at private and public schools in Massachusetts, Maryland and New York. She coaches PTS students with a wide range of abilities and learning styles. In addition to tutoring high school academic subjects, she is a test prep instructor and a college counselor. Jeanne completed the professional college counseling program through the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA).
Lynsey holds both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Biology from Florida Atlantic University, and is currently pursuing a second Bachelors degree in Nursing. Her teaching experience includes several years at both FAU and the University of Texas at Austin, as well as experience teaching IB Chemistry to high school students.
Evie was born and raised in Pennsylvania. Upon graduating from East Stroudsburg University with a B.S. in Mathematics Education, she moved to Fort Lauderdale and taught high school math for ten years. She then earned a Master’s degree in Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Denver in Colorado. After that, Evie worked as a marketing manager for high-tech companies in Silicon Valley, California. While in California, she also tutored math and volunteered in various programs to promote mathematics education. Evie has since returned to Florida, where she is very happy to be tutoring math with Private Tutoring Services.

Marie is a native of Revere, Massachusetts and has been wintering in South Florida for five years. She has a B.A. in French, a Master’s Degree in Education and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Instructional Technology. Marie has been teaching since 1968 at both the elementary and secondary levels including French, Spanish and Latin. She was a Reading Recovery teacher and Literacy Coordinator for the Bay State Readers’ Grant. Marie ended her public school career as the Director of Elementary Curriculum during which time she wrote and received the federal Reading First grant. She is certified in Massachusetts to teach K-8, French, Spanish, and Directorship.
A native of Bogota, Colombia, Marcela graduated from the National University of Colombia in General Dentistry. In addition to her private dental practice, Marcela also worked as a professor of Dental Community Services for two universities in Colombia. She is fully bi-lingual in Spanish, her native language, and English.

Stephania graduated from Boston College with a B.A. in Elementary Education with a concentration in Mathematics/Computer Science. Upon graduation, she found that she especially enjoyed working one-on-one with students. Stephania has been tutoring students of various ages in Math. She believes that each student is unique and has the potential for great success in their education.
Candice graduated summa cum laude from Florida Atlantic University in 2002 with a degree in Varying Exceptionalities, a program encompassing teaching K-12 students with exceptionalities ranging from severe disabilities to giftedness. Candice has been creating and presenting multiple-intelligence based elementary lessons in math, language arts, science, and social studies in the classroom and in one-on-one tutoring since 2004. She is certified in the multi-sensory Orton Gillingham approach to reading instruction.
Art, Mandarin Chinese
Hsuan is a graduate of Ling Tung University, Taiwan, China, earning a B.A. in Accounting. She then attended Ipswich Civic College in Suffolk, England, where she studied Fine Arts and completed a two year certificate course. Hsuan has also studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and is a Graduate Gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America. Among her other interests, Hsuan is a certified SCUBA Diver and enjoys sailing, movies, and yoga.
Ginny earned her Elementary certification from Hood College and obtained a Master’s degree in Reading from Wheelock College. During her tenure as an elementary/middle school Reading teacher in Massachusetts, she completed several courses in Special Education at Fitchburg State University.

Linda graduated from Montclair State University Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in 1978. From there she worked for 5 years on Wall Street in International Institutional Security Sales. She is a certified teacher in the States of New Jersey (K-8), Michigan (K-12 with upper level mathematics) and Florida (K-8 self contained and upper level mathematics, Honors certified.) After raising her two children, she embarked on her true passion- tutoring young people in mathematics. Since 1995 she has expanded to tutoring all sections of college test preparation exams. She moved to South Florida in 2003 and continues adding subject areas to her resume. She loves animals, water sports, yoga and tennis.

Tom completed his Master's degree in Biological Anthropology at Florida Atlantic University, where he taught anthropology and philosophy. He graduated from Canisius College in Buffalo, New York, with a B.S. in Biology, minoring in Animal Behavior. As an undergraduate, Tom volunteered as a guide at the Buffalo Zoo, which sparked his passion for teaching. Since joining PTS, Tom has taught college level Math, Science, Humanities, Writing, and SAT/GRE preparation. He also teaches Introduction to Anthropology and Biological Anthropology at Nova Southeastern University.

Maria Diz has a Master of Science Degree in Mental Health Counseling and a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Biology. Maria has worked as a group co-facilitator for the Association for Community Counseling. She has tutoring experience in Spanish, Biology, Psychology, and Language Arts.
Karla earned her B.S. in Health & Human Performance from the University of Florida and received her Florida Educator’s Certificate at Florida Atlantic University. She is Pre-K through Grade 6 and Gifted certified in Florida and "ESOL Endorsed." Karla has been teaching since 2001 in Palm Beach County Schools as a full-time teacher of third and fourth grade gifted students, part-time science coach, and interim part-time reading specialist. She is very involved with her children’s PTA and has served on the board for multiple years in different positions.
High School Sciences
Deisy received her undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Florida. She enjoys teaching Biology in both English and Spanish, as she is fluent in both. Biology has always been Deisy's passion and she hopes to further her studies by becoming a physician. Currently, Deisy works in the Rehabilitation Department of a hospital. In her spare time, she enjoys shadowing physicians during cardiac surgeries.

Debra received her B.A from Indiana University in Telecommunications, with a minor in Business. She then went on to obtain her Master’s in Elementary Education from the University of Phoenix. She is certified for Elementary Education K-6, Pre-K – 3, ESOL K-12 and Exceptional Student Education K-12. Debra has 15+ years of teaching experience and believes that every child is unique. To her, the most amazing thing about teaching is their light bulb moment.
JoAnn holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Master’s Degree in Mathematics Education. She has been a Mathematics teacher and school administrator in private college preparatory schools in San Francisco, New York and West Palm Beach. Her passion is to help students enjoy and understand mathematical skills and processes using the latest technology.

Born and raised in Germany, Katrin spent five years living and working in London, followed by two years in Paris before coming to Florida. She began homeschooling her children in 2002. Katrin joined PTS in 2013 where she particularly enjoys teaching German and French.
Carolyn graduated with an Honors B.S. Degree in Math and Education from Long Island University in New York and has a permanent New York Math Teacher License. She worked as a High School Math Teacher and later became one of the few female programmers/engineers in the field. She earned her Math Masters Degree from the State University of New York Stony Brook while working full time as a Senior Systems Analyst. Twenty years later, a new interest in pharmacology was born when her special needs son required medications; this inspired Carolyn to earn her B.S. in Chemistry from Rutgers University, New Jersey. Carolyn has worked as a High School Math Teacher, Science Teacher, and Adjunct Math Professor in New Jersey as well as a tutor with the Department of Education, in Florida, working with the learning disabled through Vocational Rehabilitation. She has received several Math Awards and her Math/Biology Thesis was published in the Mt. Sinai Hospital Journal. Over the last few years she has home tutored Math and Reading (Supplemental Education Services) for the School District. She has Math Teacher Certifications in New Jersey and Florida.
Martine is a native French-speaker and tutor. She earned a Master in Law from the Catholic University of Louvain-la Neuve, Belgium, and has undergone further training in coaching and communication at ICHEC Brussels Management School, Brussels, Belgium. After 17 years as a manager at Zurich Insurance Company, she focused herself on her studies of English, Spanish, and Dutch. In Florida, Martine teaches French to students of all ages from very young children to adults; she is also a French coach for Rosetta Stone. Martine is a member of the Hollywood Women’s Club and takes an active role with them helping young children obtain access to a quality education.

Neen received her M.A.T in Social Studies and English and her Ed.D from Harvard Graduate School of Education. She is a certified English teacher and has taught for more than 30 years in middle school, high school and college level classes. For the past 20 years, she has provided individual tutoring to students from grade 3 through college, at all levels of achievement.
Todd holds a B.S. in Biology from Vanderbilt University, an M.S. in Entomology from the University of Georgia, and a Ph.D. in Biology from Vanderbilt University. While in graduate school he worked as a Master Teaching Fellow for Vanderbilt’s Center for Teaching as well as serving as a tutor to the Athletic Department.
He has done academic research in the deserts of Baja California, the prairies of central Kansas, and the tomato fields of Northern Florida. More recently, he has become involved as a consultant with renewable energy projects in South Florida. Todd is currently a Biology professor at Palm Beach State College. He has been working with Private Tutoring Services since 2012 tutoring students in biology, chemistry, physics, algebra, precalculus, and statistics.
A native of Cali, Colombia, Patty has lived in Florida since 1999. She graduated in 2005 from Florida Atlantic University with a B.A. in Criminology and Criminal Justice. In 2010 she completed the "Pathways to Teaching Program/Transition to Teaching" at Florida Atlantic University and became a Florida Certified Teacher. Patty has tutored since 2006. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, working out, and visiting her children in New York, Boston, and Arizona.
Shani graduated with a B.S. in Biology and a B.S. in Chemistry with honors from Florida International University. She continued at FIU to earn a Master's degree in Chemistry. Shani has over ten years of experience teaching and tutoring all over South Florida, from elementary to college level chemistry, math and sciences. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, traveling and listening to music.

Patrick holds a B.S. in Elementary Education, graduating from St. Petersburg College with honors. He specializes in music, art, health, fitness, graphic design, elementary reading, math, & science. His joyful spirit paired with his ability to keep an environment relaxed and focused enables students to succeed and excel in the task at hand. Patrick is currently enrolled in a program to become a Natural Health Professional.
Ashley graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University with a major in Chemistry & Biology and a minor in Mathematics. Ashley has tutored through her high school and college years. Her goal is to engage students while learning. She enjoys working with secondary students to help inspire the “lightbulb” moment.
Marty joined Private Tutoring Services in 2013, tutoring elementary age students in all academic areas and providing speech therapy to students requiring those services. A native of Vermont, her undergraduate degree was earned at the University of Vermont. She earned a Master's degree in Communication Disorders from Florida Atlantic University. Marty holds a professional educator's certificate from the State of Florida and taught in Dade and Palm Beach County public schools before retiring after 30 + years of teaching.
Upper-Level Math & Sciences
Michael earned a dual B.S. degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology and Psychology, as well as a minor in Spanish, from Tulane University in New Orleans. He holds a Masters in Cellular and Molecular Biology and an M.D. from Tulane, as well. While in New Orleans, Michael started a partnership between Tulane School of Medicine and New Orleans Outreach which provides medical student mentors to support K-12 in-classroom activities and after-school programming in New Orleans Public schools. He has worked with PTS since 2004, focusing on biology, chemistry, calculus and physics. He also helps prepare students for standardized tests including the SAT, ACT, GRE, MCAT, DAT and select AP exams. A pioneering tutor in our Academics Abroad program, Michael has worked with students traveling across the country and in Europe.

Chelsea graduated from the Honors Program at Florida State University with a B.S. in Biology and minor in Chemistry. There she participated in research in the Neuroscience Program on diet-induced obesity, and memory and learning. Chelsea jointly published an abstract presented at the Association for Chemoreception Sciences in 2012. She and her colleagues also presented a research poster at a national convention for the Biological Honor Society. Chelsea is a former competitive gymnast and collegiate rower.
Math, Science, Spanish
Sylvia has B.S. degrees in Environmental Science and Spanish Literature from William and Mary, a Master’s degree in Watershed Sciences from Colorado State University, and a Ph.D. in Soil and Water Science from the University of Florida. Since 1996 she has been teaching in various capacities, ranging from tutoring, substitute teaching, and working for resident treatment programs for at-risk youths to private boarding schools. With the completion of her doctorate she is now able to teach at the university level as well. She finds teaching science to students of all ages fascinating, challenging and very rewarding.
Keith holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Cell and Developmental Biology and a Secondary Education Teacher Credential. He has also completed his doctoral coursework in Chemical and Biological Sciences at the Scripps Research Institute’s Kellogg School of Science and Technology in Jupiter, FL. He tutors Science, Math and Language Arts. He is an accomplished writer, and has recently co-authored two peer-reviewed scientific journal articles. Keith participates in high school science outreach events and the “Effective teaching in the Sciences” workshop series.

Kent earned his undergraduate degree in Economics from The Ohio State University. He is now a Master's student at Florida Atlantic University, studying human and primate neuroscience. He also spent four years during his undergraduate career working for the Department of Economics to tutor his fellow undergraduates. Kent’s academic interests include neuroanatomy, hormones and behavior, and quantitative methods.
Sylviane is a French native tutor who has lived in France, Belgium and Switzerland. She has been living in Florida for the last ten years and has received a Bachelor Degree in Les Sciences Psychologiques et de l'Education from L'Université Libre de Bruxelles .Sylviane has been tutoring French to home schooled students since moving to Florida. Sylviane is very passionate in sharing her knowledge for the French language and literature with students.
Beth received her undergraduate degree and began teaching in 2001, realizing her lifelong dream of becoming an educator. While teaching full time, Beth went on to earn a master’s degree with honors in the field of education. Her eleven years of experience include classroom instruction, after school enrichment classes, as well as private tutoring with students from a variety of backgrounds and abilities.
Anthony received his B.A. in History from the University of Central Florida with a minor in Social Science Education. He currently has a Teaching Certificate in Social Sciences from the state of Florida. Anthony was a reading specialist for 2 years after college and taught at the University of South Florida for a summer. During his time as a reading specialist, he had over 700 students from ages 4-75, and also taught speed-reading and study skills. He currently teaches History, Reading, English, and Literature with Private Tutoring Services.
Pat Martin has had successful early education experience within the School District of Palm Beach County as a Program Manager, Program Planner, Reading Teacher, and Kindergarten teacher. She was also an adjunct professor at Florida Atlantic University and Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida. Pat has her Master's of Education in Elementary Education with certification in Early Childhood, Reading, and is ESOL endorsed. Pat Martin has knowledge of and experience with the Quality Counts improvement system, including the standards/benchmarks, assessments, processes and key leadership within the system partners.

Born and raised in Atlantic City, NJ, Jennifer moved to Florida to complete her undergraduate studies. She earned her B.A. in Anthropology with a minor in French and a certificate in Ethnic Studies. Jennifer has also earned an M.A. in Political Science, with a concentration in International Relations, at Florida Atlantic University. She is currently working on her dissertation at Nova Southeastern University as a final requirement for her Ph.D. in Conflict Analysis and Resolution, with a concentration in Cultural and Ethnic Studies. Jennifer has been tutoring for as long as she can remember and enjoys working with students of all ages in a variety of subject areas.
A graduate of Fordham University with a B.A. in Political Science and certificate in Peace and Justice Studies, Shannon has been tutoring American and World History, Government, and English at PTS since 2007. A member of the International Reading Association, Shannon is committed to ongoing professional development in literacy instruction, exploring the methods and resources which will aid in the progress of 21st century learners. A native of Massachusetts, Shannon is currently pursuing her M.A. in Education, Literacy Instruction at Greenville College. In addition to her studies, Shannon is writing fiction and in the process of completing her second manuscript.
Julia received her B.A. from Hampshire College, where she studied Classics with a heavy concentration in the Latin and ancient Greek languages. After a year of working with severely mentally- and physically-disabled young adults, she taught Latin for two years at Sturgis Charter Public School on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Julia has recently returned from three years of eaching at the International School of Curacao in the Caribbean. There, she worked in the Learning Resource and ESL departments, taught IB English B, and was Adviser to the National Honor & Junior Honor Societies. Since moving back to the States, Julia has been tutoring students in Latin, English and SAT/ACT preparation.
Zeni Millan holds a Ph.D. in Science Education, an MS in Education and a BS in Mathematics. She most recently taught Mathematics at the Cambridge International Centre in Shanghai, China. She received a Professional Educator Certificate with "Recognition of Excellence" in Maryland. Zeni believes that every student is unique and has the "ability to learn math if given an environment that is caring, secure and stimulating."
Debbie started teaching in 1991 at environmental education centers around the country where she led students on nature walks on the beach and through forests and wetlands. While living on a sailboat and traveling throughout the Caribbean, she taught Marine Biology and Oceanography. After five years of living abroad, she moved to Florida in 2003 to teach middle and high school science at a private school. Debbie holds a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry with minors in Mathematics and Psychology from Allegheny College, a Master's degree in Biology from Georgia Southern University, a Teaching Certificate in biology from the State of Florida, as well as a US Coast Guard Captain's License and PADI Divemaster Certification. Debbie joined the PTS team in 2010, tutoring math and science. She has scientific peer-reviewed articles to her credit and is currently writing a middle grades book about sailing.
Nadya graduated from the University of Puerto Rico with a Bachelor in Communications and a minor in Journalism. She worked in the publishing field for over 15 years; after a career as a graphic designer/production manager for the Sun Sentinel newspaper in Deerfield Beach, Florida, Nadya decided to venture into education. A native Spanish-speaking instructor, she began as a substitute Spanish teacher at East Hartford Middle School in Connecticut. She worked for four years in elementary, middle, and high schools in the Hartford area and as a bilingual tutor at Norris Elementary School in East Hartford. Nadya taught adults at the Spanish Speaking Center in New Britain, Connecticut where she helped them prepare to take their GED examinations. She teaches World History and English Literature at the middle and high school level and currently lives in Boca Raton with her family.
Randi grew up on Long Island, NY as a horse lover and competitive rider. She graduated from SUNY Farmingdale with an A.A.S. and is a licensed Animal Health Technician, and graduated Cornell University receiving her B.S degree in Animal Science. She joined the faculty of Private Tutoring Services in Jan. 2013, and tutors Math and Science. She brings her Equestrian knowledge and experience and easily relates to students who come seasonally to Florida.
Katie holds a B.A. in Biology from Florida Atlantic University and has been tutoring math and science with Private Tutoring Services since 2009. She greatly enjoys her work with students from all over the country while she continues to pursue her interests in environmental science. She currently lives in Charleston, South Carolina and is an avid SCUBA diver, kayaker, and gardener.
Maria Jimena Ortiz

Maria Jimena received her Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences from Florida Atlantic University where she graduated with honors Magna Cum Laude. She is a native of Colombia and is fluent in both Spanish and English. Maria Jimena is currently pursuing her Masters Degree in Medical Sciences at Nova Southeastern University. She enjoys working with middle and high school students across many disciplines including Biology, Chemistry, Algebra and Spanish. Education is very important to her and she has a passion for helping students excel and learn.
Paulina graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a B.A. in Political Science. She then moved to Colombia, where she lived for 10 years and taught English as a Foreign Language for students from pre-school age to University level. She moved back to Palm Beach County, where she has taught Social Studies in Middle School for 8 years. Paulina presently teaches U.S. History and loves making a positive difference in her students’ lives.

Scotch grew up on a sailboat off of Sanibel Island. After finishing his B.S. in Physics at the University of Alabama, he decided to balance out his education by obtaining additional B.A.s in Communication, specifically Film, and American Studies. Scotch is a voracious learner and enjoys sharing his knowledge with students of any age. He currently resides in Palm Beach, where he is active in community affairs and sits on the town board.

Christine was born and raised on the Alabama Gulf Coast. She received her B.S. in Spanish and English Education from the University of South Alabama before spending two years teaching English to university students in Changsha, China. In 2002 she was the recipient of the Lotus Award for teaching excellence in Hunan Province. During her vacations, she traveled to Chang Mai, Thailand and Cleveland, IN, for intensive courses to earn her M.Ed. from Lee University. Christine also has an M.A. in Spanish Literature from Montclair State University. She is certified by the state of Alabama to teach Spanish and English and by New Jersey to teach Spanish; she began tutoring with PTS in 1999. In her spare time Christine reads, spends time walking outdoors, and volunteers at St. Hubert’s animal shelter to help socialize the animals in preparation for adoption.

Sean is a native of Seattle, Washington. He graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Global Studies in 2006, and moved to Florida in 2011. Sean is a music lover and has worked as a professional guitarist and music teacher for many years. His other passions include traveling the world, studying foreign languages, and practicing martial arts.

Naivys received her Bachelors of Science degree from Florida International University in Biological Sciences and was the recipient of the medallion of distinction for Excellence in Civic Engagement upon graduation. Naivys has conducted research on Lead poisoning, and synthesized a chemical that would abstract Lead (Pb II) from aqueous media to prevent lead poisoning by drinking contaminated water. She was also published on the Association of American Medical College's Journal for her contribution on subarachnoid hemorrhage teaching methods. She has been a Sunday school teacher at her local church since 2008, where she has also tutored Hispanic children in English, Spanish, math, science, and test prep.
Rosalind received her Masters in Education from the Universidad de Carabobo in Valencia, Venezuela. She received her B.A. in Hispanic Studies (Spanish and Portuguese) from University College in Cardiff, Wales, Great Britain. Before moving to Florida, Rosalind served as Academic Director of EF International Language School in Boston for five years. She has been teaching all levels of Spanish at PTS since 2007.
Riegan graduated with honors from both the University of Southern California with a BFA in theatre and the University of Miami with an MBA in Management Science Consulting and Marketing. She is passionate about teaching and communicating effectively. She has tutored for several years successfully leading the way for students to higher grades. Although grades are very important in this ultra competitive academic environment, a student’s wellbeing and capacity to learn are paramount in Riegans tutoring style; true success is built on the complete package of understanding, implementation, and results.

Eileen is an enthusiastic teacher with many years of varied experiences in the academic world. She attended Arcadia University at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. She is a member of Kappa Delta Pi (international education honor society) and a recipient of the Horace C. Woodland Memorial Award, an annual award given for promoting better understanding among fellow students at Arcadia University. After many years as a classroom teacher, Eileen went on to provide multi-grade level instruction at Yale Academy in North Wales, Pennsylvania, where she helped students succeed with assessments including the TOEFL and SAT. After relocating to Florida, Eileen joined the PTS faculty in 2010. Eileen is a K-8 certified teacher with a specialization in reading and an extensive background in the Social Sciences.

Ben studied human biology and anthropology at Brown University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He wrote his senior thesis in medical anthropology, on the genesis of HIV/AIDS stigma in Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa. He loves science, and--as a tutor--he draws on considerable experience as a student and teacher of biology, chemistry, and physics. He has helped students to raise their MCAT and SAT scores and to earn top grades in AP and college science courses. Ben is currently applying to MD/PhD programs in medical anthropology and hopes to one day be a physician-researcher.
Barb received a Bachelor of Arts in K-12 Art Education and Fine Arts and a Master of Arts in Photography and Related Media from Purdue University. Barb earned a Master of Fine Arts in Metal from the State University of New York at New Paltz and is currently pursuing an MFA in Sculpture at Bard College. Her pedagogy is informed by 9 years of diverse teaching and learning experiences at Purdue University, Sylvan Learning Centers, Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana, the State University of New York at New Paltz, and Virginia Commonwealth University

Cecilia received her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas where she graduated with Magna Cum Laude and University Honors. She studied abroad in Salamanca, Spain and worked teaching English as a Second Language in Quito, Ecuador. Cecilia spent seven years teaching Business English and Spanish for a French company, where her students included executives and engineers from Chanel, Coca-Cola and Airbus. In the past year, Cecilia has decided to focus more on working with younger students and tutoring Spanish, English, Social Studies and Elementary subjects.
Sean grew up in the mountains of Maryland, where he was high school valedictorian. He has a B.S. in Physics with a minor in Mathematics, and an M.A. in Teaching from Frostburg State University. Sean has been tutoring since 2005 and is certified in secondary mathematics, physics, and physical education. While teaching high school in South Carolina in 2009, Sean was selected as one of the National Science Teacher Association’s (NSTA) New Science Teacher Academy Fellows. Sean enjoys living in sunny South Florida, where he is happy, healthy, and productive.

Born in Hungary and raised in Canada, Márta is a world-traveler and learner. She earned her B.A. in International Relations and Business at Florida International University and her M.A. in Multicultural Education at Florida Atlantic University. She holds an International Teaching Certificate for TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and will pursue her Ph.D in the coming year. As a Multicultural Educator, she supports and extends concepts of culture, diversity and social justice in every subject she tutors. These subjects include Social Studies, English, ESL, Language Arts, World Cultures, History and French. Her educational philosophy is that education is a means to know, plan and act; thus, she engages her students in meaningful learning environments that guide them to think critically and act accordingly to achieve their goals. She speaks fluent Hungarian, English, French and some Spanish.
Brooke obtained her undergraduate degree in Urban & Regional Planning, in 2006, from Florida Atlantic University. She immediately began working in the field, as a City Planner, in Lake Worth, Florida. After one year she realized that it was not a great fit. Having 20+ years of training in modern dance, she began teaching dance in after school programs, with the Center for Creative Education. There she discovered her passion for education, realizing how well she resonated and communicated with children. In 2008, she became an elementary school teacher. She taught the upper grades of elementary for four years. She is skilled at teaching math from elementary through geometry. She also loves teaching earth and life sciences. She is especially fond of sharing her understanding of health and wellness with others. Brooke is also certified as a Hatha and Vinyasa yoga instructor.
Although from Tennessee, Sarah has called Florida her ‘home’ since 2005. She holds a B.S in Psychology with minors in Biology and Chemistry from Florida State University. Sarah’s involvement in a pharmacological neuroscience research lab led to a publication, along with a published abstract presented at the national convention for the Society for Neuroscience in 2010. Her passion for helping youth led her to found a nonprofit organization in Tallahassee that focuses on providing mentorship and tutoring to local youth. Outside of academia, Sarah has a great love for tennis, which she pursued competitively during high school and college.
Elise is a native of Florida where the Spanish language has influenced her throughout her life. She was introduced to Spanish by her babysitter when she was an infant and never let it go. She was graduated from the University of Florida in 2010 with a minor in Spanish and spent several months living in Guanajuato, Mexico studying the language, its history, and its boundless intricacies. In 2011, she became a Florida Certified Teacher through the Department of Education. She has worked with college-level foreign exchange students of other cultures and finds endless fascination in the power language has to bridge individuals of diverse heritages.
